I had my first political science class with Dr. Phan, Understanding Politics.  I did pretty well with the class work, but what interested me the most were the heated debates, I would have with other students.  I loved debating with people, picking apart their weak conservative arguments they got from their parents at home.  These debates made me think about what I would do with a degree in political science after graduation, (and yes I thought about graduation that soon in my college career)….

Dr. Phan, you have never missed an opportunity to use me as an example of what a poverty-stricken person can become, and even though I often wished I was not used as an example in your lectures, it helped me to never forget who I am, where I’m from, how far I have come and how proud I should be for my accomplishments, and for that, I thank you.
