Evaluation of the 1996 NMUN Experience
Country: Iceland

I wholeheartedly believe that the NMUN should be continued at Rider.  I believe this for several reasons.  The NMUN experience has taught me a great deal about the current themes in world politics, the procedures and operations of the United Nations and how they affect out country and many other member countries.  The experience is in a class by itself here at Rider.  It is an experience that contains many valuable lessons that one can carry and utilize in the working world.

The NMUN teaches you to effectively communicate your interest, to cooperate with others in sometimes frustrating conditions, and the art of compromise.  This experience has heightened my sense of professional behavior which will be quite useful to me in acquiring a career and fulfilling my duties in my career.  It is a very maturing experience trying to work with delegations from other countries that have a completely different set of values and norms than your country.  Everyone wants their interests protected, but compromise must be reached in order to progress.  It is a very rewarding experience to finally reach that compromise because you spend a great deal of time and effort to reach that compromise.

Not only do you acquire these invaluable characteristics, but you also have a great deal of fun.  I strongly urge Rider to keep this program, and also fully support it.  This is one experience I know I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and I think others should have the opportunity to try this experience out also.  I know they won't regret it.
