Fatisha Hobbs,
Co-Leader,Third year in NMUN
General Assembly First Committee
Delegation Co-LeaderAfter participating in NMUN for three years now, all I can say is that I cannot believe that it’s over! If there ever were a class or experience that you could not get enough of at school, it is MUN as a class and as an experience. People sometimes ask or wonder about this MUN experience. To these people, all that I can say is that you have to experience it on your own. Words do the MUN experience no justice. I could try to describe it, but one would have to experience it in order to capture the true essence of it. The bond that I have formed with my teammates this year is one that will never be broken. We will forever be Team 2001!
Model UN is more than an academic class – it is also a campus club with responsibilities to the University community. The Model United Nations team requires its members to not only expand their knowledge, but also represent Rider with character and integrity.
Academically, I noticed that because MUN required so much discipline and hard work, my work ethic spread to other classes as well. I also noticed that the harder the committee, the most organized I had to be, and the better I did overall.
If there is one thing that I have learned with the NMUN experience: it is the importance of teamwork and solidarity not only on the college level, but in the world. This class is an eye-opening experience. We are not alone and we must work together with one another to solve the global problems that plague us.
Kofi Annan once said, “Ours is a new world of
collapsing borders and connections among people. It can be bewildering
and intimidating. Some of you may be apprehensive about moving out into
it. But it is time for you to blossom or take wing.” NMUN let me
do just that.
The stay in NYC was just indescribable. It was one of the most interesting work I ever did. Even though we had some long nights, I couldn’t wait to get down to the committee again in the morning. I think I gained a lot from NMUN. I learned how difficult the political process can be and how much work and feelings are involved. I think NMUN has enriched me as a person.
I also found the work with the team very rewarding. It gave me some
additional insights in the American culture and was great fun.
