 Martin A. Lessem
I was born in 1977 in Malmö, Sweden. My parents are Jan N. Lessem, M.D. and Eva K. Lessem, R.N. I also have a sister, Sarah E. Lessem, who is currently attending NYU, Stern School of Business as a Freshman. We moved to the United States, specifically Westfield, New Jersey, in 1982 when my father got a better job.

In 1984 we moved again, this time to Evansville, Indiana. This was a very educational move for my family and me, as it resulted in our first experience with genuine American Racism. Coming from Sweden, a very homogeneous country, we had never really experienced Racism either toward us, or our friends. That all changed in Indiana. We moved from Indiana in 1986 to Mountain View, California. California presented new experiences, especially when compared to Indiana. In 1990, we moved to Waterloo, Belgium in an attempt to return to Europe. It was unfortunately a failure as we discovered that we had gotten too used to the American way of life. In 1991 we moved back to the United States, this time to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. This is where I completed High School, Conestoga in 1996.

My college career began in the fall of 1996 at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. There I was a Legal Studies Major. Due to medical issues, I transferred to a school closer to home. That is how I now find myself as a Senior Political Science Major, Law and Justice Minor at Rider University.

During my life I have traveled a great deal with my family as well. During the New Year, 1989/1990, we went to Hong Kong, China, and Macau. That was an experience that I will never forget. I have also been to Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Lichtenstien, Belgium, France, England, including Wales, Lithuania, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Israel, Canada, and of course Sweden. My travel with my family has given me an incredible insight into how different people think and how countries are influenced by the people that live there.

My future plans include Law school, and then eventually a career in Constitutional Law. It is my hope to one day be able to combine both my Swedish heritage and my law into one field, but how exactly that will be accomplished, I still do not know.
